Chlorophyte on Banana leaves
Embedded on the banana leaves are images of family members from their early age until today.
Under house’s indoor light, images shined golden, hanging in the air, like some dried leaves on spider web.
The artist traced back to the first batch of photographs in the family, portraits of great-grandparents to the latest selfie of the youngest generation. Transferring photos of one’s family, generations by generation, on the banana leaves with the aid of sunlight.
The banana tree is a prominent native plant of the artist’s homeland, abundant in its population and its use from the trunks to the fruit.
The work draws the connection between life of a human being as part of a larger family and a production of previous generation to Banana plant. For its large, strong leaves are now cut, separated from their origin, hung in the midst waiting to reach the end when they decompose.
